Inertia is an electroacoustic composition inspired by the physical principle of inertia—the tendency of motion to persist. It also reflects the artistic need to maintain creative momentum despite external resistance.

The piece translates this dual concept into sound, exploring states of suspension, lingering, and arrested sonic motion. Short sound fragments—such as the delicate rhythm of a balancing tin pot—are stretched, looped, and transformed. Through processes of spectral freezing and gradual timbral diffusion, these sounds are made to hover, resisting progression or decay. Their inherent pulse is regenerated into patterns that embody a persistent, forward-driving energy.

The work unfolds in three interconnected sections—Fine Mechanics, Void, and Inertia—each exploring a facet of sonic persistence and resistance. Together, they invite a listening experience attuned to stillness, tension, and the enduring force of creative motion.

Inertia was nominated in the 5th International Competition of Electroacoustic Composition and Visual-music of the Foundation Destellos in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2012.
