Cyclages is an octophonic composition built from sampled and processed sound fragments. The piece is a continuation and extension of my exploration into the reuse and transformation of sound objects and compositional techniques.

The focus of the work is on texture. Small, brief sonic events—”points”—accumulate to form “spots,” and these spots combine into larger “figures.” This approach guides the filling of silence with short sound fragments, allowing micro-elements to generate evolving, composite textures.

Technically, the work experiments with sample banks of short recorded sounds, whose density is controlled algorithmically. High-density passages generate granular noise, while low-density passages create distinct, sparse clusters. Transitions between these densities become a major source of inspiration, evoking fleeting shapes in static or landscapes dissolving in mist.

Applying this process across multiple sample banks yields different colors of noise and varied figures. Layers of these textures are stacked like transparent photographs, creating intricate and immersive sonic environments.
